Having worked in the home improvement field, but now having the opportunity to chart his own course at 60 years old, Michael McKenny found himself being pulled back to home improvement, where he began to explore his options.

“I love the idea of ‘home’ along with the lives and stories that are created inside,” said the now-61-year-old McKenny. So in July, the Centennial resident launched a Floor Coverings International franchise, visiting customers’ homes in a Mobile Flooring Showroom stocked with thousands of flooring samples from top manufacturers. McKenny worked for a large home improvement-related company for the last several years and before that had worked in education, assisting non-traditional students through the enrollment process. McKenny also holds a real estate license. He was a good listener and problem solver and when he finally had the opportunity to fulfill his desire to own a business, he wanted to address the biggest complaints he heard while working in home improvement.

“I have some strong opinions about what success looks like and with the support of my wife, Julie, this is the time to create something special,” McKenny said. “The biggest problems customers had with their home improvement experience stemmed from poor communication and lack of follow-through. I wanted to be part of the solution. I wanted to make things better for people.”
